What Is Faith?

Faith is trust. If you have faith in something or someone, you trust it or them. Believing goes hand-in-hand with trust. When you exercise faith, you trust that something is true or reliable and you believe it. You then respond accordingly.

If you put your faith in someone, you trust in that person and commit to what they are or stand for. One definition the Bible gives for faith goes like this: Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1). All of Hebrews chapter 11 describes what faith looks like by giving historical examples of people who lived by faith.

Although sometimes we have to take things on faith, as we say, because we can’t see the evidence, but we believe they are true anyway, most faith is based on good evidence. Once we weigh the evidence-whatever it is-we decide to put our faith in it. The Bible gives good evidence on which to base your faith in God.
