What Is The Bible?

The Bible is the foundational document for Christianity. All the teaching in this app is derived in some form from the Bible-which means it’s pretty important for you to understand what it’s all about.

Christians often refer to the Bible as the Word of God because even though it is 100% the work of human authors, they believe it is also 100% the work of God. God specially inspired the authors to write exactly what He wanted them to write, to communicate the truth of where we came from, how we should live, and what will happen to us after we die.

The Bible-often called the Holy Bible-consists of two main parts, the older part called the Old Testament, and the newer part called the New Testament. The Old Testament comes from the sacred writings of the Jewish faith, while Christians accept both Testaments as their authoritative sources. The two parts consist of 66 smaller sections called books-39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New.

The Bible consists of historical accounts, teaching, wisdom literature, poetry, prophecies, letters, and visions. Yet all these parts form a unified message of God to humanity. These written accounts were gathered into orderly collections that came to be called the Bible as we know it today.
